N
Establishment
The Transit Hub will be a multi-modal facility to accommodate local and regional traffic (pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, taxis, buses) and intra-regional traffic (buses and taxis). Transit hubs are no longer simply where the traveller arrives or departs. The facilities in and around the hub make the area a destination and can provide a ripple effect that encourages investment in the area, generates new revenue streams, and boosts broader prosperity.

Why?
To reduce the traffic problems due to inadequate road capacity at the city level. Earlier, 40 city buses used to run at a time, but the number of buses has been reduced, leading to poor public transportation facilities. As Nanded is a developing city, the number of private vehicles is increasing, causing congestion of vehicles on the road.
FORM-FOLLOWS-FUNCTION
Form follows function is a principle of design associated with late 19th and early 20th century architecture and industrial design in general, which states that the shape of a building or object should primarily relate to its intended function or purpose.

Master Plan - ISBT

7.5 M wide entry road connecting the terminal with segregated pathways for pedestrian movement. It is covered with lush green native landscaping. The entrance porch, which is double in height, provides a grand feeling and an airy environment. It is equipped with all public utilities and sanitation points, considering today’s COVID-19 scenario.

N

Ground Floor Plan - Bus Terminal

A small halt would serve as a resting break from the long walk from the entrance, as well as act as a waiting area for the dormitory. As the whole design is based on form follows function, it can be seen how this small courtyard helps in connecting various blocks, and being near the terminal makes it quite convenient for travellers to take a rest in between connecting journeys.

N
First Floor Plan - Bus Terminal
This angular unit is designed considering movement hierarchy. Primarily, bus movement is taken into account, keeping route segregation in mind, as it can be seen that there are six bays dedicated to the most occupied directional routes. The roof over the terminal features a transparent cut-out that allows surplus sunlight, making the space look grand.
